Allegiance Health System has signed a letter of intent to affiliate with Ochsner Health in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across rural Louisiana.

The agreement outlines plans for closer collaboration between the two organizations while preserving their operational independence.

The Eunice, Louisiana-based Allegiance Health System operates hospitals and medical facilities across rural areas in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. The New Orleans-based Ochsner Health manages a network of 47 hospitals and over 370 outpatient centers throughout the Gulf South.

“This affiliation reinforces our shared mission: to ensure that patients in rural Louisiana receive the same level of quality, innovation, and expertise found in major metropolitan centers,” said Rock Bordelon, president of Allegiance Health System.

The partnership focuses on expanding access to primary, specialty, and high-acuity care, while improving care coordination. The two organizations plan to share clinical resources, electronic health record systems, and telehealth services such as Telestroke. The collaboration will also emphasize population health strategies and chronic disease management.

“This collaboration is founded on a mutual commitment to serving patients and enhancing the delivery of healthcare services in rural Louisiana through collaboration and shared expertise,” said Pete November, president and CEO of Ochsner Health.

Despite the affiliation, both systems will retain their current ownership and management structures. The intent is to work jointly on targeted initiatives rather than pursue a merger or acquisition.

Ochsner Health, a nonprofit system, reported caring for 1.6 million people in 2024 across all 50 states and more than 60 countries. Allegiance Health System focuses on community-based care in underserved areas and has pursued partnerships as part of its regional growth strategy.

Further details on the specific programs or timelines under the affiliation have not yet been announced.
