South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) Health has begun installing more than 300 new hospital beds across its campuses as part of a $7.8 million investment aimed at improving patient safety and staff efficiency.

The phased rollout includes Centrella Smart+ hospital beds, which feature technology designed to help prevent patient falls and pressure injuries while enhancing monitoring capabilities.

“This investment is a testament to our dedication to providing exceptional healthcare services,” said Cherise Giddens, vice president and chief nursing officer of SGMC Health. “By integrating cutting-edge technology into our patient care environments, we aim to enhance the safety, comfort, and overall experience for our patients, while also supporting our staff with tools that promote efficiency and excellence in care delivery.”

The bed upgrade is part of a larger effort by SGMC Health to modernize its equipment and infrastructure. The system is also in the midst of a $150 million expansion of its main campus, which includes the construction of a Women and Infants Tower, an Emergency and Trauma Center, and campus-wide redesigns to improve accessibility and the patient experience.

SGMC Health operates four hospitals in South Georgia, serving Lowndes, Berrien, and Lanier counties, as well as North Florida. The system provides a range of healthcare services, including heart and vascular care, stroke treatment, trauma care, cancer treatment, surgery, and women’s health. It also runs ambulance services, urgent care centers, imaging facilities, a cancer center, and a skilled nursing facility.
