Rush University Medical Center is looking to open a $70 million outpatient care center at a former Sears location on the West Side of Chicago.
Construction is set to begin in the fall, with the 60,000 square-foot facility including 90 exam rooms, as well as an urgent care, radiology department and lab for drawing blood on the ground floor. The upper two stories will have nonurgent care rooms that can be closed on weekends.
Rush plans to open it in January 2025,
reported the Chicago Sun-Times.
“There’s more and more procedures that are done outpatient so that you don’t need to build more hospital beds. Healthcare has shifted to an outpatient setting,” Dr. Dino Rumoro, CEO of Rush Oak Park Hospital, told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The site is near communities the hospital serves and will have around 200 parking spaces.
The hospital has not yet chosen a name and is waiting on state approval to start construction.
It also has plans for another development nearby that has not been announced yet.
Rush University Medical Center is an academic medical center made up of a 671-bed hospital for adults and children, the 61-bed Johnston R. Bowman Health Center, and Rush University.
