Midstate Radiology Associates has acquired New Haven Radiology Associates and Whitney Imaging sites
Midstate Radiology Associates has expanded further in Connecticut through the acquisition of New Haven Radiology Associates, Whitney Imaging and Whitney Imaging West.

The deal will enable MRA to provide CT, MR, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, 3D mammography and women’s imaging, X-ray and hereditary cancer risk assessments to residents in Hamden and the Greater New Haven area.

Founded in 1955, MRA currently manages and reads for over 24 imaging locations across Connecticut. The deal marks the first strategic partnership between it and RAYUS Radiology, a subspecialty practice for advanced diagnostic and interventional radiology, of which NHRA and the Whitney Imaging sites are members.

“With the acquisition of NHRA and Whitney Imaging sites we will once again, as one organization, continue on our promise to patients and the surrounding medical communities to bring the most advanced affordable imaging services available today to convenient locations that patients consider ‘Close to Home’, focusing everything that we do to provide the best medical imaging experiences possible,” said Tom Cappas, chief operating officer at Midstate Radiology Associates, in a statement.

MRA previously acquired Radiology Group, P.C., one of the first outpatient radiology practices in Connecticut, in July 2021. This included its two locations in Branford and Hamden. As part of the deal, board certified radiologist Dr. Jay Sokolow joined MRA.

At Branford, MRA said that the facility would perform bone density testing (DEXA), CT scanning, mammography, ultrasound and X-Ray imaging.

Under the current deal, Dr. Zenon Protopapas and Dr. Frank Mele, from NHRA, will join the MRA team. Whitney Imaging and Whitney Imaging West said they will continue to operate with the same staff.

RAYUS Radiology has also been expanding its presence with the opening of two new diagnostic imaging centers in Minnesota in December and one in Maine with high-field MR, CT and X-ray. It also opened two other centers with the same services in Utah in January.

“We are thrilled to complete this partnership with key leaders in this market to provide quality care to the patients of this community,” said Kim Tzoumakas, CEO of RAYUS Radiology.
