Fujifilm will install its Persona C mobile fluoroscopy system at U.S. army bases
FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation has won a four-year contract from the U.S. Army and Defense Logistics Agency to deploy its surgical C-arm technology at multiple medical treatment facilities.
The first installation of its Persona C mobile fluoroscopy system is slated to take place in early Q1 of 2022, with additional installations to follow throughout the year. The advanced scanner allows for fast, precise positioning and advanced image quality for different diagnostic imaging and minimally invasive surgical procedures.
"The system is compact to accommodate limited spaces, while providing easy and fast positioning to help ensure patient comfort and accuracy for every exam. It's not just about traditional specifications anymore, as digital flat panel opens the door to future proofing, clinical utility, and flexibility, which aligns with what the government is looking for in their unique environments," Rick Banner, senior director of marketing at FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation, told HCB News.
Released in November 2020, the lightweight mobile scanner is expected to be useful for orthopedic procedures and general surgeries.
Its large diameter and lightweight design also make it easy for surgeons to bring the system directly to the operating table, with 78 cm of free space available. Images can be viewed with a 21x21 cm or 30x30 cm amorphous Silicon (aSi) flat panel detector, which also allows for ultra-low-dose fluoroscopy and vascular imaging. Additionally, it has a removable grid with 81 cm of free space and dedicated radiography mode for high-quality still imaging.
Following numerous evaluations of various C-arm technologies, the DLA chose Fujifilm as the singular vendor that best met or exceeded the U.S. Army’s standards and criteria for such a device.
Fujifilm supplies medical technologies for various branches of the U.S Federal government. Back in August, the company was
awarded a 10-year sole source contract for its digital radiography systems by the U.S. Navy and Defense Logistics Agency.
Winning this contract after a two-year evaluation, Fujifilm will outfit 34 U.S. naval vessels, both new and active, with its clinical DR X-ray room systems, which include next-generation detector technology and a high-quality compact floor-mounted room, along with advanced features.
In addition, it also has a 10-year DOD Digital Imaging Network-PACS IV contract and a 10-year Joint DLA/VA Radiology and Imaging Systems contract.
"The Army will use our leading-edge c-arm for image guidance during general surgery, orthopedic, and possibly urological procedures. Depending on a facility's scope of services they may also be used for neurological and cardiac or vascular surgeries as well," Jeff Marchant, government business director of the west at FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation, told HCB News in regard to the Persona C mobile fluoroscopy system.
Banner adds that Fujifilm "will continue to partner with the government and share our expertise in the imaging arena as we expand in healthcare to improve the lives of our soldiers and patients alike."
