In our disposable and short-lived society, very few things last a season or two, much less 27 years. And if you come across something or someone that has performed successfully for that long logic dictates that you should stop and take a long hard look at it. That's exactly what I did with The Leading Edge in Diagnostic Ultrasound Conference, which just held its 27th annual conference.

The event is held every year in Atlantic City, New Jersey and this year it was held at the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa. The Leading Edge in Diagnostic Ultrasound Conference is the brain child of Dr. Barry Goldberg, one of the pioneers of ultrasound. Dr. Goldberg is currently director of the Division of Ultrasound and Radiologic Imaging, and Professor of Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School and Hospital, a post which he had held for more than 20 years. He is also founder and director of the Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (JUREI), the largest center for ultrasound education. It has been his vision and determination that has grown this conference to what it is today.

Originally, Dr. Goldberg started the conference back in 1980 as an advanced training course for doctors, residents and students in the area of ultrasound. Although, a much bigger and more informative conference than the earlier events, the conference has kept to its core roots. It continues to provide the highest quality information to attendees while giving the manufacturers and brokers that exhibit invaluable feedback from the attendees. Not to mention the opportunity to get a glance at what the competition is doing.

As any attendee or exhibitor will attest, The Leading Edge in Diagnostic Ultrasound Conference has turned out to be the "must attend" show in the industry. With over 30 exhibitors and over 1,300 attendees from around the world this year's conference was yet another success. As John Sheridan from U.S. Instruments Inc. said, "The show is intriguing, insightful and definitely on the leading edge."

What keeps this show the leading show for ultrasound is its ability to constantly monitor the needs of both the attendees and exhibitors and present a conference that presents what's new and what's hot in the industry. "It was a great show. There were a lot of students there and a lot of great potential prospects," said Shawn Bryant with EchoServe.

Whether a doctor, a manufacturer or a broker I suggest you mark on your 2008 calendar the dates May 20th - 23th. That will be the 28th consecutive Leading Edge in Diagnostic Ultrasound Conference, I wouldn't miss it for the world. Well, maybe, I would for the world but I'll be there.
