Stamford Health outlines $275 million campus expansion focused on cancer, behavioral health services

por Gus Iversen, Editor in Chief | June 22, 2026
Stamford Health plans a $275 million redevelopment of its Bennett Medical Center Campus in Stamford, Connecticut, adding new facilities for cancer care, behavioral health and inpatient rehabilitation while expanding parking capacity.

A centerpiece of the plan is a new 73,000-square-foot Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center that will be built on the southwest corner of the campus. Stamford Health said the freestanding facility will increase patient capacity and support oncology services delivered through its collaboration with Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center.

The existing Bennett Cancer Center building will be converted into a behavioral health facility spanning two floors. Stamford Health said the project will increase treatment capacity and add a Partial Hospitalization Program, along with outpatient interventional psychiatric services. The health system cited behavioral health as a leading unmet need identified in its Community Health Needs Assessment.

Stamford Health is an independent nonprofit health system with more than 4,100 employees. Its network includes the 305-bed Stamford Hospital, physician practices and ambulatory care locations across lower Fairfield County.

The redevelopment also includes relocating the Van Munching inpatient rehabilitation unit from its current location to the fourth floor of Stamford Hospital. The new unit will include 20 private rooms, rehabilitation equipment and dedicated space for brain injury care. Stamford Health said the move is intended to improve coordination between rehabilitation and clinical teams caring for neurosurgical and spinal patients.

Additional parking improvements are planned to accommodate increased patient volume and campus growth, though the health system did not provide details on the number of new spaces.

“This plan represents a transformational step for Stamford Health and the patients and families we serve,” said Liz Longmore, executive vice president and COO of Stamford Health. “It reflects our commitment to delivering world-class care across oncology, behavioral health, and rehabilitation, while creating modern, state-of-the-art spaces that ensure our patients continue to receive the highest-quality care, close to home.”

The Stamford Hospital Foundation is expected to lead a fundraising campaign to support a portion of the project costs.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with projects opening in phases over the following years.
