The hospital was not the first entity to fall victim to the scheme, with Cerner LLC. stealing millions from other companies between August 2008 and February 2015. One of these businesses was ISOL Technology, a Korean company sued by Cerner LLC. in 2014.

Conspirators testified about false business dealings and used fake exhibits to hold up claims of damage, receiving a jury award of $24 million. Upon learning of the fraud, ISOL Technology filed an emergency motion for sanctions against Davis’ company.

DMC has also taken steps of its own to detect and protect against future false advert and sale schemes.

"Dallas Medical Center has implemented new processes for purchasing equipment based on best practices from within the healthcare industry," Falsarella told HCB News. "Hospital employees receive additional training on purchasing processes and resources available to them, including a group purchasing partner that is available to assess and validate potential vendors, and to negotiate competitive pricing on the hospital's behalf."

Following two hours of deliberation, the jury found Mitta guilty. He faced up to 20 years in federal prison without parole.

Davis, who pleaded guilty in April 2017 to leading a conspiracy, faces up to 12 years in prison and has been ordered to pay $19.15 million in restitution to the victims of the scam.

Four other co-conspirators pleaded guilty and were sentenced in separate cases.
