Radiofrequency surface coils designed to be more comfortable for patients are now available for GE Healthcare's wide-bore MRIs.
The so-called Geometry Embracing Method, or GEM, coils cover 98 percent of exam types and feature feet-first scanning and materials that fit the body's natural contours, the Waukesha, Wis.-based company said. The GEM suite lets technologists reposition patients less often, so scans are faster, GE said.
Syracuse Orthopedic Solutions, a nine-center surgical practice in Syracuse, N.Y., was the first U.S. location to install the devices, GE said. The coils work with the office's Optima MR450w 1.5T.
