Niowave and Ratio Therapeutics have entered into a supply agreement under which the Lansing, Michigan-based radioisotope manufacturer will provide cGMP-grade Actinium-225 for Ratio’s radiopharmaceutical development programs.

The agreement is intended to support the Boston-based clinical-stage company’s ongoing clinical trials and future development of targeted alpha therapies for cancer.

Actinium-225 is an alpha-emitting radioisotope that has attracted increasing interest in oncology because it can be linked to molecules that target tumors and deliver radiation directly to cancer cells. Industry stakeholders have identified access to reliable supplies of the isotope as a key challenge as targeted alpha therapy programs advance through clinical development.

Under the terms of the agreement, Niowave will supply Actinium-225 to support Ratio’s therapeutic pipeline. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“Niowave is the leading partner for companies with radiopharmaceutical programs that require a reliable, scalable supply of Actinium-225, and we are pleased to be working with Ratio,” said Matt Burba, president and chief commercial officer of Niowave. “Our agreement demonstrates the growing importance of medical radioisotopes, especially Actinium-225, and their potential to bring new hope to patients.”

Ratio said the agreement strengthens its efforts to secure isotope supply for ongoing clinical programs and future development activities.

“Niowave's expertise and growing production capabilities make them an important partner as we continue advancing our radiopharmaceutical pipeline,” said John Babich, Ph.D., chief scientific officer of Ratio Therapeutics. “This agreement supports our efforts to secure the Actinium-225 supply needed for ongoing clinical development while reinforcing our broader strategy of building the infrastructure and partnerships necessary to bring targeted alpha therapies to patients.”

Founded in 2005, Niowave develops superconducting electron linear accelerators and produces medical isotopes, including Actinium-225, for radiopharmaceutical applications.

Ratio Therapeutics is developing radiopharmaceuticals for solid tumors. The company’s research platforms, Trillium and Macropa, are used to develop radiopharmaceutical candidates for both therapeutic and imaging applications.
