ProTom International launched a new compact, fixed-beam proton therapy solution called Radiance 330-C. Its modular and customizable designs allow it to be integrated into existing LINAC vaults or other available spaces within a hospital.

"It was designed to address specific market needs by providing a compact, versatile solution that reduces barriers to implementing proton therapy," Paul Tso, CEO of ProTom, told HCB News. "The R330C is designed for healthcare institutions looking to retrofit their existing radiation oncology departments with proton therapy capabilities."

ProTom partnered with Leo Cancer Care to integrate Radiance 330-C with Leo's upright patient positioning and imaging system. According to the company, this will extend the offering of gantry-less proton therapy without sacrificing treatment capability, reducing costs, and increasing the flexibility of proton therapy centers.

Altogether, Radiance 330-C includes the Fidelity pencil beam scanning technology, an upright patient positioning system, and a diagnostic-quality CT at the treatment isocenter. It also features a compact synchrotron particle accelerator to deliver a clinical treatment energy range from 70 MeV to 250 MeV with a capacity of up to 330 MeV.

"The R330-C enables the use of a single accelerator to support multiple treatment rooms in limited space, providing a cost-effective way to scale proton therapy services," explained Tso.

Due to Radiance 330-C's compact footprint and modular design, it's meant to be installed in either new or existing facilities. Tso said that makes it an ideal option for institutions looking to expand their radiation oncology services without requiring a large-scale construction project.

Fewer gantries are required to set up this system, and when it's paired with the Leo Chair the room can be set up faster and at a much lower cost compared to traditional gantry room installations. It's available in multiple configurations ranging from single-room systems to multiroom setups.

"It can be tailored to meet diverse space and operational constraints," said Tso. "This flexibility allows healthcare providers to optimize their facility’s real estate and expand incrementally as demand increases."
