Moffitt Cancer Center appoints chief financial officer

TAMPA, Fla. — Joanna Weiss has been appointed as Moffitt Cancer Center’s new chief financial officer and executive vice president. In her role, Weiss is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the cancer center.

Joining Moffitt in 2006 as the director of Internal Audit, Weiss has served in a variety of leadership positions within the Finance department throughout her tenure. Her leadership has been instrumental in driving efficiencies and improving financial transparency throughout the cancer center.

“The health care environment is ever changing, and Joanna’s leadership will continue to be vital in securing Moffitt’s financial strength,” said Patrick Hwu, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt. “Discovering the cures of tomorrow, while providing exceptional treatment and cancer care today, requires a strong foundation, and our financial team plays a big role in accelerating our efforts.”

Prior to Moffitt, Weiss worked as an internal control manager for PSCU Financial Services and as an auditor with Ernst & Young LLP (now EY). She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Auburn University and a master’s degree in health administration from Florida Atlantic University. She is a certified public accountant.
