Sarah Allen, MBA, CNMT, RT(CT), associate operating officer for the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, has been named Senior Vice President for Radiology Services at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).
Allen is recognized for her consultative and supportive role for radiology services provided through Vanderbilt University Hospital (VUH), VUMC’s regional hospitals, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and the Adult Ambulatory Divisions.
One of VUMC’s largest and most prolific departments, Radiology and Radiological Sciences is currently home to more than 140 faculty, 50 trainees and 500 staff, and is responsible for performing thousands of diagnostic imaging studies and radiologic procedures each day. As a national leader in radiologic imaging research, the department currently ranks No. 14 in total National Institutes of Health funding.
In this new role, Allen will continue to partner with Daniel Brown, MD, professor and interim chair of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, in his systemwide role. She will also continue to work closely with other Imaging Clinical Service Center (CSC) physicians, technologists and sonography leaders, nursing leaders and entity leaders from across the Vanderbilt Health system.
Allen will expand her strategic oversight and capital planning to encompass these other areas in an advisory capacity. Radiology directors serving at these various sites will maintain their current local reporting relationships and will have a collaborative relationship with Allen. She will continue reporting directly to Lee Ann Liska, MBA, President of Vanderbilt University Hospital.
Allen is a veteran department leader with more than 26 years of service to VUMC. She has served as the associate operating officer (AOO) for the VUH Radiology CSC since Sept. 20, 2021. “Allen is a seasoned veteran in Radiology Services and will bring leadership depth and extensive experience to the role,” said Liska.
Prior to being appointed AOO, Allen worked as Radiology’s administrative director for four years. She has also held roles as director of Radiology, manager for Breast Imaging, and both senior and staff technologist roles in Nuclear Medicine/PET.
As an alumnus of Vanderbilt Allied Health, Allen continues to be committed to the improvement of operations, patient service, education, research and professional development of staff.
Allen earned a Bachelor of Science from Austin Peay University and a Master of Business Administration from Trevecca University. She holds a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist certificate from VUMC’s Nuclear Medicine Training Program.
She is board certified as a Computed Tomography Technologist and as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
