To help make endovascular surgery faster and more effective, Philips has added new mapping software designed by cloud-based provider, Cydar, to its Imaging-Guided Therapy Mobile C-arm System, Zenition.
Launched in 2019, Zenition utilizes image capture and processing capabilities originally found on the Philips Azurion image-guided therapy. It is designed for vascular and orthopedic surgeries and can be wheeled from one OR to another. It also has a harmonized interface, is easy to use and has versatility to maximize operating room performance and enhance clinical capabilities.
Cydar’s EV Maps software will enable Zenition users to utilize real-time 3D guidance capabilities and extended procedure planning to guide surgeries, optimize the use of equipment and tailor treatments to individual patients. By providing cloud-based AI and computer vision for mobile surgery, Cydar EV Maps helps reduce radiation exposure by approximately 50%, fluoroscopy time significantly and overall time of procedures by more than 20%. It also allows for fewer injections of iodine dye, which is the leading cause of in-hospital kidney failure.
"The integration of Cydar EV 3D Map software into the Philips Image-Guided Therapy Mobile C-arm System — Zenition — now further elevates the clinical experience and adds extended procedure planning, real-time guidance capabilities that enhance workflow efficiency and help improve patient outcomes. The primary use of this integrated solution is Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) procedures," Peeyush Kaushik, business category leader, mobile surgery at Philips, told HCB News.
With it, surgeons can devise detailed patient-specific 3D maps of the target vasculature to plan out surgeries. They can also use these maps to increase intraoperative live image guidance and update them in real time to account for deformations during procedures, such as guidewires and instruments that deform the patient’s blood vessels. It also produces post procedure outcome analysis.
In addition to standard EVAR, Zenition supports other forms, including rEVAR, FEVAR, BEVAR, CheVAR and TEVAR. It also can be used to support aortoiliac occlusion, lumbar vascular embolization, internal iliac embolization, type B dissection, penetrating aortic ulcer (PAU), iliac branched device (IBD) and covered endovascular reconstruction of aortic bifurcation (CERAB).
In 2020, Philips
added a new Table Side User Interface to Zenition so clinicians could use it inside the sterile field. This reduces the communication burden with the operator and allows better control of the system. It also integrated intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) for peripheral vascular procedures to streamline the operating room and improve workflow.
"By partnering with Philips to bring our Cydar EV Map solution to Philips' user-friendly Zenition platform of mobile C-arms, we are a step closer to achieving our mission to ensure every image-guided minimally invasive surgical procedure goes exactly as planned," said Cydar CEO Paul Mussenden in a statement.
Cydar EV Maps is certified Software-as-a-Medical Device with EU CE mark and U.S. FDA 510(k) clearances. It is available for use in the U.K., EU and U.S.
