Ascension St. Vincent Hospital has invested $325 million in three major construction projects to expand its infrastructure
Ascension St. Vincent Hospital is investing $325 million in three construction projects for the expansion of its flagship campus in Indianapolis.

The hospital plans to add a location to St. Vincent Women’s Hospital that will include 109 new private NICU rooms, a new brain and spine hospital, and a new parking garage and additional surface parking.

The second location of women’s services on the 86th Street campus and the addition of 109 private NICU rooms will enable mothers and babies to be together; and for Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, will enable it to maintain its certification as a Level IV Maternal and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) facility. An OB nurse navigator will work with the maternal fetal medicine specialists, NICU physicians and pediatric specialists to plan out care for mother and child.

The new brain and spine hospital, meanwhile, will open up Midwest regional access to neurosurgical treatment and will include the integration of the Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine research institute. A residency training program will also be established. The new hospital is expected to support Ascension St. Vincent’s existing level one trauma center and the ongoing expansion of the pediatric neurosurgery program. Its establishment will help meet statewide demands for operating rooms, an ICU and an intensive care step-down unit, and help the healthcare system in its pursuit to become the only hospital in the state of Indiana to offer level one trauma for both adults and children.

In addition, the hospital will invest in a new and larger parking garage and a considerable amount of additional surface parking. It also will focus on creating easy access and a healing environment through peaceful, calm settings and green spaces for women, children and the aging population.
