United Imaging has opened up a new facility in Houston for assembly and shipping of products that will be distributed throughout the entire US.
China-based medical imaging equipment manufacturer United Imaging has opened a new, state-of-the-art factory and expanded service complex in Houston, Texas.

The opening of the 91,000-square-foot facility is part of its initiative to expand its presence throughout the Americas and beyond. The company sees Houston as a strategic choice of location as it provides “all kinds of positive attributes” for its business.

"At the Houston factory, in the short- to mid-term we will be assembling and shipping products to the entire U.S., and our facility will also operate as a global showroom for our products,” Jeffrey M. Bundy, CEO of United Imaging Healthcare Solutions, told HCB News. “In the longer term, this facility is a strong foundation for an expanded global supply chain with jobs and manufacturing content."

The establishment of the factory for assembling and shipping products follows the recent deployment of the first mobile digital PET/CT in the U.S. and the launch of the 75 cm ultra-wide 3T uMR OMEGA scanner. The opening also coincides with a number of strategic changes undertaken by United Imaging to restructure its workforce in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Like so many organizations, we had to make tough decisions, however, the first guiding principle for these changes was to keep all of our current and future customer commitments. In particular, we have been very focused on a successful and satisfied installed base and we will continue that focus as we grow,” said Bundy. “The changes we made will enable us to bring new partners in, which we will discuss over the next days and weeks."

He adds that the company has a number of partnerships that are set to be revealed over the coming months and will help United Imaging implement its next steps for growth. "We want to grow our presence and also expand our offers to provide access to innovative technologies to more patients around the globe."

United Imaging began local R&D in the U.S. market starting in 2013, but did not make its debut in the nation as a medical equipment manufacturer and seller until RSNA 2018. The company has since opened an AI center in Cambridge, Massachusetts; moved into corporate offices in Houston; and racked up FDA approvals for more than 24 products.

United Imaging has received its certificate of occupancy for its service center and product showroom.
