FINAO Solutions is now processing in excess of one million radiology studies per year through the use of its hosted Intelerad solutions, produced by Canadian manufacturer Intelerad Medical Systems Incorporated.

The Alabama-based provider of turnkey imaging technology has distributed the PACS technology to different practices throughout the US, many of which use it for a variety of purposes.

“Intelerad is a PACS,” Gene Cathey, the CEO of FINAO Solutions, told HCB News. “But we have people who use it as a full PACS system. In other words, we do the archiving and long-term storage of their studies. It’s also used as a teleradiology solution.”


Intelerad solutions can connect radiologists to various repositories within an imaging ecosystem, creating efficient workflows and improving quality by ensuring access to patient information needed at the time of interpretation. The technology also allows radiologists to read all of their studies from the same viewer and same voice recognition system instead of having to log in and log out of different viewers and different systems.

The solution is cloud-based, providing the local LAN speed of servers on site in a hospital, as well as cloud capabilities for those outside of it. It also handles remote sites well, allowing radiology groups more interoperability and simple expansion of business.

“By hosting Intelerad solutions for their clients, FINAO are able to reduce the cost and burden for medical imaging providers who don't have the in-house expertise to manage IT systems and applications,” Helene Gey, vice president of marketing at Intelerad Medical Systems Incorporated, told HCB News.

Cathey says that FINAO Solutions hopes to continue building on this accomplishment by expanding the presence of Intelerad solutions to more practices and facilities throughout the U.S.

“We want to continue to grow our footprint across the United States,” he said. “We have a large presence in the south but we want to continue to expand across the U.S. in offering this type of solution.”

The system is approved for use in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Oceania.
