Toshiba launches its Aquilion Lightning 80 CT system

Reconfigures from 40 to 80 to 160 slices
Toshiba Medical announced today the launch of its new Aquilion Lightning 80 CT system. The 160-slice, 80-detector row CT is designed for full-body imaging and routine volumetric scanning.
"The Aquilion Lightning 80 is designed to operate reliably and efficiently, producing high-quality images that can potentially help with faster diagnoses and treatment in a busy environment," Dominic Smith, senior director of the CT, PET/CT and MR business units at Toshiba, said in a statement.
The system can be reconfigured from 40 to 80 to 160 slices without replacing any hardware. It can also deliver reconstruction speeds of up to 50 images per second at full resolution.
The Aquilion Lightning 80 has a 78-centimeter bore and according to Toshiba, has the industry's thinnest slices at 0.5 millimeters.
It's a total cost of ownership solution geared toward the mid-tier CT space, and features premium CT technology that's found on some of the high-end systems.
To simplify exams, it was built with adaptive diagnostic technologies including Single Energy Metal Artifact Reduction, which uses an iterative reconstruction technique to reduce metallic artifacts.
It also features the SURESubtraction technology, which can remove bone and calcium data from data sets and allow clinicians to view the tumors or arteries that are at risk.
"Providers don’t have to choose between a cost-effective solution and premium CT technology, as the Aquilion Lightning 80 features AIDR 3D Enhanced to help reduce dose and improve patient safety as well as the PURE ViSION CT Detector," said Smith.
