Good news from GE Healthcare

por Philip F. Jacobus, CEO | January 13, 2016
Today, I received an email from Ben Fox letting me know that GE Healthcare is moving their headquarters to Chicago. I see that as good news for a lot of reasons.

I like seeing more jobs in the U.S. That cannot be a bad thing.

We all know that Chicago is a center for the health care business; the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association, RSNA, HFMA and other health care related groups are headquartered in the area. Why not move the GE headquarters to Chicago?

A few people have been wondering why the offices were not moved to Milwaukee.

Maybe because it is 18 degrees there today with an expectation that on Sunday it is going to be -8???

Weather aside, I believe it is because Chicago is probably the best place to be if you are a health care company.

The very fact that GE is focusing on health care is reassuring to me. It is just another indication to me that the health care space will remain strong because I cannot imagine that GE would waste any time on a business that was not going to grow.

As long as we are talking about the health care space, I had a visit from my broker today to reassure me about the losses I have taken. Interestingly enough, of all the stocks I own, my health care stocks have performed the best.

Just another indication that we are all in the right space.
