DOTmed: Tell us about this purchase. As reported in Statesman.com, Forest Park Medical Center is planning to break ground next month for a 46-bed surgical hospital in North Austin.
Forest Park Medical Center Austin, expected to open late next year, will have 145,000 square feet and cost $90 million to build and $45 million to equip.
The Austin hospital will be 70 percent owned by physicians in a variety of specialties; most of whom will perform elective procedures.
DOTmed: Why was the winner vendor chosen? Statesman.com reports that "(doctor-owned hospitals) are engineered to give the best possible patient experience and are much more relaxing and calming than a regular hospital."
DOTmed: Any final thoughts? The Forest Park system has opened three surgical hospitals in Texas since 2009 and is building two others, one in Fort Worth and one in San Antonio.
