Two affiliates of The Joint Commission said Tuesday they're making Paula Wilson their permanent chief.

Wilson became temporary president and CEO of Joint Commission Resources and Joint Commission International in June 2010, after former boss Karen H. Timmons stepped down. Timmons had led the groups since 1999.

The JCR is the official publisher of The Joint Commission, while the JCI handles international accreditation in more than 60 countries.

The Joint Commission said a search committee for a new head decided Wilson was the best candidate. The group's board of commissioners unanimously supported her appointment.

Before joining the commission, Wilson ran a consulting firm, served as vice president for public policy at the United Hospital Fund, and taught at New York University and Columbia University. She also once worked for former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, overseeing operations at the state's health department.
