Dell aims to bundle Practice Fusion's Web-based electronic medical records software with hardware packages targeting small practices, the company announced.

The Round Rock, Texas-based computer company is including Practice Fusion's free EMR program with a line of EMR-focused hardware sets including desktops, laptops and other computer accessories.

"Our goal is to bring leading edge, yet very affordable technology to small practices and to simplify how they use and manage it so that doctors can focus their attention on serving patients and delivering the highest levels of medical care," Scott Jenkins, vice president of Dell health care products, said in a statement.

Eighty percent of physicians work in practices with nine or fewer doctors, according to Practice Fusion, with over half in practices with fewer than four.

Practice Fusion's software lets doctors chart, prescribe, schedule and bill, according to the privately held, San Francisco-based company. It also provides a personal health record for patients.

"It is exhilarating to see U.S. health care, at both the local and national levels, make the transition to modern, life-saving information technology," Practice Fusion CEO Ryan Howard said in a statement. "Dell and Practice Fusion are working together to reinvent the doctor's office."

Along with Practice Fusion, Dell offers hardware bundles with programs from Allscripts, eClinicalWorks, Merge and others.
