December 11, 2024 - KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--After a comprehensive nation-wide search, Children’s Mercy Kansas City announced today the appointment of Alejandro Quiroga (pronunciation A-lee Kee-row-ga), MD, MBA, as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 2, 2025. Dr. Quiroga comes to Children’s Mercy from Corewell Health, the largest health care system in Michigan, where he served as President of Corewell Health West.

Dr. Quiroga oversaw Corewell Health West, a $4.2 B integrated health system which includes: the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and 9 other hospitals, over 120 ambulatory sites, the largest teaching hospital for Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, a combined medical staff of 4,000 providers with a 2,000-provider employed medical group, 38 medical residencies and fellowship programs, and an acclaimed $128+ M research and quaternary program that includes adult heart and lung transplants, pediatric kidney transplants and bone marrow transplants.

Under his leadership, Dr. Quiroga was praised for enhancing the patient experience, strengthening employee retention, building a strong culture of trust and inclusion, and establishing deep community partnerships.
