Society of Interventional Radiology names president for 2020-2021
April 14, 2020
Michael D. Dake, M.D., FSIR
FAIRFAX, VA (March 31, 2020)—Michael D. Dake, M.D., FSIR, an interventional radiologist and senior vice president of the University of Arizona Health Sciences in Tucson, Ariz., assumed the office of president of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) on March 31, during the society’s annual Members' Business Meeting held via webinar.

“In addition to continuing our pursuit of key organizational aspirations—such as fostering diversity and inclusion and supporting members in their chosen practice models—in the next year we will closely examine other challenges facing interventional radiology, such as physician burnout, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 response, and pandemic response readiness,” said Dake, who oversees health professional training across the University of Arizona’s medical schools in Phoenix and Tucson. “Interventional radiology is attracting the most creative and intellectually stimulated students available and our challenge as leaders and educators is to help them put their training into practice in a way that is satisfying to them and supportive to their overall wellbeing and the wellbeing of the community.”

Johnson, M.D., FSIR, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis; newly appointed Secretary Parag J. Patel, M.D., M.S., FSIR, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; and Immediate Past-president Laura Findeiss, M.D., FSIR, Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta.
