Carestream Health said Tuesday that version 11 of its Vue radiology information system was certified to help providers meet stage 1 of meaningful use requirements, making it among the first crop of RIS systems radiologists can use to get federal incentive money to adopt electronic health records.
Carestream said Vue RIS was certified an EHR Module by the Commission for Health Information Technology, an Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB), on Oct. 26. Complete EHRs meet all 2011-2012 meaningful use criteria, while EHR modules meet one or more criteria, Caresteam said.
The Rochester, N.Y.-based company said the Vue RIS also includes mammography auditing functions, to help users become MQSA certified without needing separate mammography-focused software.
About meaningful use
Under the HITECH Act of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the government will dole out $20 billion to doctors who are "meaningful users" of EHR technology. Eligible physicians can earn up to $44,000 each.
About
90 percent of radiologists are estimated to qualify for the provisions, though like all doctors, to get the maximum benefits, they have to enroll in the program before October 2012. Penalties for users who don't meet meaningful use start applying in 2015.
