About one-fifth of U.S. hospitals plan to purchase a radiology information system and the majority of installed systems today, more than 60 percent, are more than five years old, according to a new market report teaser from CapSite, a health care technology research firm.
The firm said its study of more than 360 U.S. hospitals found that the desire to meet meaningful use requirements has helped drive RIS adoption. About 50 percent of participants have applied, or will soon apply, for MU payments. And nearly 71 percent of participants understood that radiologists could qualify for MU incentives, Williston, Vt.-based CapSite said.
The "2011 U.S. Radiology Information System (RIS) Study" was released Thursday.
