GE HealthCare unveiled its new Venue Sprint point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) yesterday, making it the latest addition to the company's family of Venue solutions.

"As the demand for imaging outpaces the growth of the workforce, and clinicians report feeling increasing burnout, there is an urgent need for solutions that offer healthcare providers support and flexibility at the point of care," Karley Yoder, general manager of point of care ultrasound and chief digital officer of ultrasound at GE HealthCare, told HCB News.

Nurses who use ultrasound to guide needle placement have told her that they want an ultrasound system that's easy to use, can be taken with them wherever they go, and doesn't need to be wheeled around. They also appreciate wireless probes to avoid having to deal with cords.

"They need to feel confident with using ultrasound and be able to get started with an exam right away when they see a patient," said Yoder. "That’s why we designed Venue Sprint to empower clinicians so they can make confident clinical decisions whenever and wherever care is needed."

Venue Sprint is a portable system in the form of a tablet and comes complete with wireless Vscan Air dual-probes. Clinicians can use it in a range of clinical settings including critical care, emergency medicine, and medical transport.

It features AI-enabled resources and documentation tools, which simplifies manual processes. It also comes with optional clinical tools to assist users of varying experience levels with conducting exams, including Caption Guidance, which is on-screen guidance for capturing diagnostic-quality ultrasound images.

The rest of the Venue family ultrasound systems will also have access to the wireless Vscan Air dual-probes and Caption Guidance. Other optional tools include the Bladder Volume tool, Auto Volume Flow, Venue Coach MSK, and ViewPoint 6 ultrasound reporting software.

GE HealthCare will have all the Venue ultrasound systems on display at the upcoming ACEP Scientific Assembly starting on September 29 in Las Vegas. Venue Sprint and the rest of the Venue family are available in the U.S. and will launch in key countries later this year.
