Affidea has acquired two healthcare practices in Italy and one dental aesthetics organization in Spain.
Integrated healthcare provider Affidea Group has continued its European expansion with the acquisition of two healthcare facilities in Italy that boost patient access to diagnostic imaging.

In Milan, the health system has acquired DIAMEDICA – Centro Medico Polispecialistico Italiano, which has provided prevention, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care across a range of specialties, including X-ray, ultrasound, MR, and CT, for over 30 years. It is located near Affidea’s existing clinic in the city, which offers other advanced diagnostic imaging tests that can be covered privately or through the National Health Service.

Affidea’s other new location is DMT – Tuscolana Medical Diagnostics, a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging center in Rome that provides X-ray scans and is equipped with a high-field 1.5T MR scanner and a 128-slice CT primarily used for cardiac scans but also suitable for all body regions. The center is located in the Tuscolano Appio neighborhood, near existing Affidea centers.

“Our presence in the country has more than doubled, reaching 61 centers, and our range of diagnostic and healthcare services has expanded, improving our patients' access to integrated care. The acquisition of DIAMEDICA and DMT has brought new clinical capabilities to our network and strengthened our position in Lombardy and Lazio, allowing us to see even more patients,” said Fabio Silo, country CEO of Affidea Italy, in a statement.

Founded in 1991, Affidea is the largest European provider of advanced diagnostic imaging, out-of-hospital, and cancer care service centers. Over 2,500 medical professionals are now working across its 61 Italian sites, serving more than 2.4 million patients annually.

In addition to its expansion in Italy, Affidea also acquired the Institut Joan Autrán, a dental aesthetics and implantology practice in Barcelona, Spain. All three acquisitions together bring its total number of acquired European medical centers to 356 in 15 countries, staffed with 14,000 professionals who provide care to more than 14 million patients annually.

The provider recently completed another acquisition in Spain, the Clinica Atenea in the Valencia Region, which provides outpatient, diagnostic services, including MR scans, mammography, ultrasound, X-ray, DXA, and dental CT. It also acquired Instituo Radiologico Gandini, an Italian medical center in Biella that specializes in diagnostic imaging and women's health, last May.

The company says that within the first two months of 2024, it has made five acquisitions in total, including the two in Italy and one in Spain. The others are health facilities in Switzerland and Portugal.

“We are leveraging our community-focused strategy to enhance service accessibility and respond to the increasing patient demand for premium medical services. By incorporating centers with outstanding local recognition and diverse clinical expertise, we enrich our portfolio and maintain our high-quality services,” said Guy Blomfield, executive chairman of the management board and CEO of Affidea, in a statement.

Financial details for the Italian and Spanish deals were not disclosed.
