NYU Langone has transformed a former Bloomingdale's and Sears building in Garden City into a $170 million, 260,000-square-foot facility with over 800 staff and doctors trained in 32 specialties, who are expected to care for 400,000 patients annually.

Opened this month, NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Garden City is one of 70 outpatient sites on Long Island and one of 300 in New York and Florida under NYU Langone. It includes 260 patient exam rooms, an expanded adult ophthalmology service, and an outpatient radiology department that makes up a quarter of the four-floor building.

It also employs surgical specialists and others in cardiology, vascular surgery, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, internal medicine, maternal-fetal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, podiatry, pulmonology, rheumatology, urology, and more.

"This beautiful new location allows patients to see multiple doctors in a single visit, with each provider connected to the same electronic health record system that ensures integrated care,” said Dr. Andrew Brotman, executive vice president and vice dean for clinical affairs and strategy, and chief clinical officer at NYU Langone Health, in a statement.

Among the imaging services the facility provides are MR, ultrasound-guided procedures, and X-rays. It also has been made a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center by the American College of Radiology and offers bone density testing, biopsies, digital mammography, and breast MR, CT, and PET scans. Included are private dressing rooms for patients and nurse navigators to oversee callbacks.

According to the Department of Radiology chair Michael Recht, services from another Long Island facility that NYU Langone shut down will be transferred here. As an ambulatory center, the organization can perform additional exams to keep up with rising demand.

The building includes elements of the original 1970s exterior design by renowned architect Edward Durell Stone, but inside, has an open floor plan and a modernist design that lets in more natural light to create a holistic experience. This includes windows in the garage wall, an outdoor garden, and walls adorned with art.

The facility is half a mile long and takes up an entire square block. It is located one mile away from NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, one of the health system’s six inpatient locations, and six blocks away from the Garden City Long Island Rail Road train station.

Patients can schedule appointments there and review information from their visits through the NYU Langone Health app as well as the NYU Langone Health MyChart patient portal.
