ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The ASRT Foundation and Elekta have partnered to offer scholarships that provide $10,000 to improve diversity, inclusion, and representation in the health care industry. Two Black radiation therapy students will receive $5,000 each to support their educational expenses.

Elekta has been a leader in precision radiation medicine for nearly 50 years. "Elekta is, and always has been, absolutely committed to equality and fairness in our industry, and we will continue to listen, learn and further educate ourselves to be an ally for future generations of health care professionals," said Larry Biscotti, Elekta's Executive Vice President of Region North and Central America. "There is no room for discrimination of any kind as we strive for workplace diversity not only in the U.S., but around the world. We are proud to be a part of this noble effort."

The ASRT Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the world's largest radiologic science association. It is known as the largest single provider of medical imaging and radiation therapy scholarships in the world. For the 2021-2022 academic year, the ASRT Foundation will award more than $250,000 in scholarships to 83 recipients including practicing professionals working toward new certifications and degrees along with entry-level students at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

"We're proud to lead the way in supporting students and professionals with advancement opportunities," said Steve Hardy, M.S., R.T.(R)(T)(CT), CMD, Chief Operating Officer for the ASRT Foundation and Executive Vice President of Development and Corporate Relations for ASRT. "Offering this scholarship is a powerful tool to support inclusion and diversity in our profession, develop new leaders and give back to this critical profession. We couldn't do it without the generosity and support of Elekta."

Scholarship recipients must be ASRT members and are selected based on evidence of commitment, leadership, achievement, and financial need. The Foundation's Scholarship Review Committee evaluates all scholarship applications and provides recommendations for final selection to the Board of Trustees.
