KT Corp in South Korea has designed a mobile diagnostic solution for use in medical centers in 173 Russian Railway stations
South Korean mobile operator KT Corporation has joined forces with Russian Railways and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital to establish a new digital health system in Russia.
The three unveiled their collaboration earlier this month with a demonstration of KT Corporation’s telemedicine system connecting the Central Clinical Hospital No. 1 of Russian Railways in Moscow with two regional providers 200 and 300 miles away in Tula and Yaroslavl, respectively, as an example of their desire to equip providers in underserved areas with medical diagnosis and treatment capabilities for visiting patients.
"This pilot project is a great opportunity to improve medical infrastructure through digital healthcare," said Yun Kyoung-Lim, Head of KT's Future Convergence and Global Business Office, in a statement. "We will actively expand our digital healthcare business to help patients in medically underserved areas."
The solution is part of KT's digital healthcare platform, m-Hospital, designed to provide primary care at medical centers in Russian rail stations and trans-Siberian trains.
Based on diagnostic data stored and shared in the mobile platform, staff at the Moscow hospital can offer remote treatment by video and rapidly diagnose angina, myocardial infarction and other cardiovascular disease, as well as respiratory conditions, diabetes and prostate cancer.
Equipment included in this collaboration includes a blood tester, blood sugar checker, a digital stethoscope and mobile ultrasonography to address internal organ issues such as conditions of the kidneys, liver and gallbladder.
Fetal sonography and basic blood and musculoskeletal system tests will also be available, along with an AI-based diagnostic imaging solution for X-ray interpretation during screenings for lung cancer and other diseases.
The set up for the collaboration began in December 2017 with the signing of a memorandum between KT Corporation and Russian Railways to develop a mobile diagnostic solution to be deployed at all 173 medical facilities managed by Russian Railways.
