Henry Schein Medical has agreed to distribute the uSmart 3200T NexGen ultrasound system through its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) business as part of a new agreement with Terason.

The portable ultrasound allows emergency responders to assess conditions and perform exams at the point-of-care during transportation in emergency vehicles or on aircraft, and to monitor vitals to determine treatment and facilities necessary for patients.

"As we continue to invest in technology that can help advance the EMS industry for the benefit of providers, and ultimately patients, Henry Schein is excited to partner with Terason to distribute the uSmart 3200T," said Andy Goldy, general manager of emergency medical services at Henry Schein Medical, in a statement. "Our customers can continue to rely on us to offer technologically-advanced devices, such as the portable ultrasound, to help uncover and treat life-threatening conditions that may otherwise go unnoticed, and to help triage traumatic situations that require quick decision-making and treatment."

The use of portable ultrasounds is a growing field in many areas outside of hospital settings. For instance, PSV Eindhoven recently became the first soccer club in the world to adopt Royal Philips’ Lumify portable ultrasound.

The device is a tablet that weighs less than five pounds, making it easy for transport, and uses SuperHarmonic Imaging capabilities for quick processing speeds. It also consists of an intuitive touchscreen design for fast and efficient operation.

uSmart 3200T NexGen assets include its customized presets, fast boot-up, grab-and-go portability, long battery life, Wi-Fi capabilities and remote connectivity for enabling communication with locations patients are being transported to for medical assistance.

"Terason and Henry Schein's partnership further solidifies our commitment to the pre-hospital market," said Jeffrey Sirek, general manager of Terason, in a statement. "By combining our cutting-edge technology with Henry Schein's commercial expertise in bringing innovative products to market, we can deliver solutions that help reduce the guesswork among EMS professionals who have to quickly assess patient needs."
