Olympus is expanding its EndoTherapy product line with the launch of its 3-in-1 SB Knives and two new business deals.

"There is an unmet need for devices that promote minimally-invasive endoscopic options and advance patient care," Jason Ashraf, director of marketing at Olympus, told HCB News. "We have made significant investments in partnerships that will strengthen our EndoTherapy portfolio and the future of health care."

The 3-in-1 Knives are a product line of scissor-like endoscopic submucosal dissection knives. These knives are used to remove early-stage gastrointestinal cancer that hasn't yet entered the muscle.

The product line is available for sale in the U.S. through an exclusive distribution agreement between Olympus and the chemical manufacturing company Sumitomo Bakelite Co.

"It is our hope that the introduction of the 3-in-1 SB Knives make it easier for gastroenterologists to perform endoscopic submucosal dissection, and therefore lower the risk of complications associated with the procedure," said Ashraf.

Olympus announced an agreement with Aries Pharmaceuticals to promote the Eleview submucosal injection agent. It's designed to lift polyps during gastrointestinal endoscopic resection procedures.

Eleview, which was developed by Cosmo Pharmaceuticals, improves margin visualization to help reduce the risk of gastrointestinal perforation and damage to the external muscular layer.

Olympus and Aries, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cosmo, will promote Eleview to end-users, and each will sell it through their existing distribution networks.

Olympus also announced an exclusive distribution agreement with Ruhof Healthcare for the company's Guardian Endoscope Single-Use Valve Set. The endoscopy sales team at Olympus will distribute the product in the U.S.

It's a sterile, disposable valve that eliminates the need for manual cleaning. The sets are color-coded and each contains one air/water, suction, and biopsy valve.

Olympus highlighted the SB Knives and business agreements at the American College of Gastroenterology's World Congress of Gastroenterology conference over the weekend.
