Dealers still play a prevalent role in the retrofit market and quoting multiple OEMs’ equipment. Customers, however, tend to mainly purchase retrofits and highly configurable value-based systems through the dealer channels. Service quoted through third parties is also prevalent across the majority of vendors.

Another major consideration when purchasing a flat panel digital detector across any imaging modality is drop protection. Due to the high number of drop incidents that tend to occur over the life of a detector and the high replacement costs, drop protection coverage is essential for this technology. The majority of vendors offer drop/damage protection at the average cost of $5,000 annually, with a $5,000 deductible per incident.
