HCB News: As you look toward the 40th annual symposium next year, what initiatives or objectives does the NCBA have?

CN: Our 40-year anniversary is a major milestone. We look to have a great year and plan to provide another fantastic experience for our attendees. As always, we will continue the trend of providing high-quality education, networking opportunities, excellent scholarships, and awards. In our education sessions, we will tackle current challenges within the HTM community such as: the aging workforce, changing regulations, cybersecurity, and much more. In addition, we will hold our 2nd Annual “Mike McCoy” Golf Tournament and also plan to have a fantastic anniversary giveaway to our attendees, so stay tuned for details!

HCB News: What initially drew you toward a career as a biomedical professional?

CN: As a child, I always enjoyed figuring out how things worked or how they were built. I recall having a high school teacher talk about how his son repaired and maintained anesthesia machines. At the time I thought, “What an awesome way to work with your hands while indirectly helping people,” but I had no idea how to achieve such a position. Later, while looking through a college course catalog for Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute in Hudson, North Carolina, I stumbled across the “Biomedical Equipment Technology” program. It sounded interesting at the time, so I decided to start my classes. Little did I know how perfect this field was for me!
