Diversified Instrument Services Acquires Midwest Science and Biocenter's Centrifuge Repair Business

by Amanda Doreson, Project Manager | February 06, 2007
Centrifuge repair requests
sent to MSB will now be
forwarded to DIS.
Diversified Instrument Services (DIS), located in Evansville, Indiana, acquired the centrifuge parts and service division of Albertville, Minnesota's Midwest Science and Biocenter (MSB) in December of 2006.
According to DIS General Manager David Jensen, the independent medical equipment and laboratory service organization "wanted to expand business and already had a qualified [centrifuge repair] technician on staff."

Both companies are DOTmed registered users and MSB is now a DOTmed 100. DIS was a client of MSB.

Since the acquisition, DIS has hired one technician, added two more sales people, and moved to a bigger warehouse to accommodate their larger inventory. MSB Vice President Jason Fisher, who is DOTmed Certified, has temporarily relocated to Evansville in order to orient DIS staff about their new line of business. DIS hopes to tap into the markets in Nashville, Tennessee and Southern Illinois - both areas currently underserved by existing centrifuge repair providers.

According to Finance and Operations Manager John Olson, Midwest Science and Biocenter "will concentrate more on the service and sales of clinical and analytical laboratory instrumentation" to sell parts for chemistry and hematology analyzers as well as reagents and consumables.

Both companies report that the transition is going smoothly as MSB's former centrifuge repair clients have been happy with the service provided to them by DIS.
