Mineola, NY – Woodbury resident, Leonard R. Krilov, MD, has been named Chairman of Pediatrics at Winthrop-University Hospital. In this role, Dr. Krilov will be instrumental in broadening the scope, reach and services of the Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop. Previously, Dr. Krilov served as Vice Chairman of Pediatrics at Winthrop. He will continue in his role as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease at Winthrop.
A dedicated clinician and academic leader whose knowledge and passion for helping others runs deep, Dr. Krilov has been a vital member of the Winthrop medical staff for 16 years. In addition to treating patients with the utmost compassion and care, Dr. Krilov is an expert in the arena of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. His research focus lies in the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) – a virus that causes infections of the lungs and respiratory tract – and other respiratory viruses.
A sought after expert for various topics pertaining to pediatric infectious diseases, Dr. Krilov has published 100 peer reviewed articles and 50 book chapters. He is a current reviewer of several medical journals including Pediatrics, the Journal of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal. Additionally, Dr. Krilov is an editor for Concise Reviews in Infectious Diseases (past), Pediatrics Annals, eMedicine and Infectious Disease Practice.
A member of the Board of Directors for The Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS), an organization that is dedicated to providing lifetime resources of exceptional quality, innovation and inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome, autism and other developmental disabilities and their families, Dr. Krilov is committed to helping ACDS raise the standard of care for these individuals. He is also an elected member of the executive committee of the Section on Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
Dr. Krilov earned his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University and his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He completed an internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Disease at Children’s Hospital in Boston. Following his training, Dr. Krilov began his career at the Schneider Children’s Hospital of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Krilov has held the academic ranks of Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine and is currently a Professor of Pediatrics at State University of New York at Stony Brook.
