Dell will be debuting its first-ever monitor built for the health care environment, the Dell Medical Review 24 Monitor (MR2416), at RSNA next week.

HCB News reached out to Greg Brill, product line manager of Medical Displays at Dell, to find out what makes a medical monitor different from an entertainment monitor.

"The most obvious difference is meeting medical design standards and safety requirements for medical electrical equipment with IEC 60601-1 compliance," said Brill. The new device will feature a Dicom Part 14 preset enabling accurate greyscale for medical image viewing with an anti-reflective edge-to-edge covered glass on the front and a fully sealed IP-32 rated design.

The monitor, which is listed on Dell.com at $1,099.99, is designed to withstand rigorous cleaning in order to reduce the risk of infections and adhere to state regulations for disinfection. It also features an active screw-on cable clip to secure cables within the housing, and comes with a three-year limited warranty and service support.

"In both health care and entertainment, professionals and working in detail-oriented environments, and need superb screen performance, color precision, extensive connectivity, flexible viewing options, additional range in height adjustment and reliability," said Brill.

"These monitors are built for the unique day-to-day needs to help improve practice — from better diagnosis, improved patient care and sanitation," he added.

In a related announcement, Dell is partnering with Zebra Medical to bring machine learning into the hospital and provide decision support to practitioners.
