Welcome to the annual parts and service issue! The title of this month's letter borrows a little from the message on the issue's cover. While the image makes it a little tongue-in-cheek, the message holds true - with the right parts, or ingredients or what have you, anything is possible. In my case specifically, I'm thinking that with the right team, anything is possible. This issue of the magazine more than any issue in memory was created through team effort. Extensive research, outreach and interviews were conducted to deliver the full story when it comes to parts and service (section starts on p. 41).

This is our largest issue of the year to-date (the RSNA issue in November will be at least as large), and this is the most ambitious we've ever been with our parts and service issue. We reached out to nearly 200 professionals to get viewpoints and opinions to share with you. Additionally, we have some fascinating findings gathered by IMV Medical Information. The research firm shares some of their findings regarding imaging departments and what those departments are really looking for (see p. 42). MD Buyline and The Remi Group contributed articles on choosing equipment and service contracts and customer service in regard to service contracts (pages 46 and 48 respectively). Page 86 starts the special parts vendor section, a directory of DOTmed Gold Parts Vendors, which can serve as a shopping guide for your parts needs.

Being introduced this issue is a new feature called "Cost Containment Corner." DOTmed's very own president, Phil Jacobus, will be at the helm of that column. Each month, Phil will be speaking with leading industry voices to gain insight into how they meet the challenges of working with smaller budgets to deliver better service. For the kick-off, Phil interviews Ed Sloan Sr., founder of Ed Sloan & Associates about how new technology is helping to lower the cost of care. Additionally, Ed spoke about the European market as well as the consolidations that have hit the parts and service sector in recent years.

This issue also offers an industry sector report on sterilizers (p. 36) as well as a complimentary feature on infection control (p. 32).

Meanwhile, our online news is more robust than ever with staff reporter Lauren Dubinsky heading that up and covering all the news worth covering online, with more than 60 stories posted in the past 30 days and only a portion of them published in abbreviated form in the magazine each month. There are news updates offered every week day. If you're not checking out DOTmed News Online, you're probably missing out on a prime opportunity to keep in-the-know when it comes to what's going on in your industry. If you want to be sure to get the updates, DOTmed sends out a weekly news email every Thursday. To sign-up, visit the news page (www.dotmed.com/ news) and look for the DOTmed News Alert window on the left hand side of the page.
