On Monday, GE Healthcare announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared its Revolution CT scanner for market.
The new CT scanner is being marketed for patients who may present more challenges to clinicians, including patients who have high heart rates or metallic implants. Since it can scan patients at a very low dose, it's also well-suited for pediatric patients.
According to GE, the technology is able to address these challenging patients by freezing cardiac motion in one heartbeat, reducing metal artifacts, and offering the potential for sedation-free CT scanning.

Revolution CT includes a new gantry designed to image at 0.28s rotation speed and tested to support rotation speeds up to 0.2 sec in the future, as well as 16 cm whole organ coverage. The technology has clinical impact for cardiology, oncology and neurology in particular.
