Oxford to sell refurbished X-ray tubes for GE CTs

Oxford Instruments plc said Wednesday its North American service division will now sell a new line of refurbished X-ray tubes for General Electric Corp. CT scanners.

In a statement, Jeff Fall, president of the service wing, OiService, said the reconditioned tubes are a "cost-effective alternative" to buying new tubes directly from the manufacturer.

Repaired tubes are about 40 to 70 percent less expensive, according to a statement on the OiService website.

Oxford is a publicly traded engineering company based in Abingdon, UK. Its North American medical equipment service business, which originally just focused on MRIs, expanded in November after the company bought Platinum Medical Imaging LLC, a CT and MRI parts and service company.

OiService has offices in Deerfield Beach, Fla., Vacaville, Calif., and Woodbridge, N.J.
