Elekta said Friday the latest control system for its family of linear accelerators received the Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) clearance. The Stockholm-based radiation therapy company said the digital control system, called Integrity R1.1, can help reduce treatment delivery times by up to 30 percent, according to work the company has done at eight pilot sites.
The system is on its sixth generation, Elekta said. The company said its first digital control system was installed in 1985 at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
