Philips announces FDA clearance for new premium digital wireless radiography solution

In a recent study presented at the 2011 European Society of Radiology conference, researchers using a DR system with a wireless detector cut 25 percent off patient exam time - the equivalent of 10 days a year - for a typical two-view skeletal exam, compared with conventional computed radiography (CR). In addition, another study found that a mobile DR unit can offer better image quality than CR for bedside chest exposures, in some cases even at 50% of the x-ray dose used to acquire the CR image.

"Radiologists and technologists face the same challenge as every other health care provider - taking care of more patients with fewer resources," said Shawl Lobree, vice president of marketing, Diagnostic X-ray for Philips Healthcare. "The new MobileDiagnost wDR is an extremely compelling solution from both a clinical and budgetary standpoint. Time saved during the imaging process is often crucial to treatment outcomes and patient well-being."

The MobileDiagnost wDR is a flexible, mobile solution that provides the same outstanding image quality as Philips' full efficiency premium DigitalDiagnost DR rooms anywhere in the hospital, including trauma and operating rooms and intensive care units. It has a robust design making it ideal for the aggressive demands of busy medical facilities. Its wireless portable detector is just as durable, featuring an ergonomic handle and a rubber case for increased protection. The cable-free detector design also helps health care professionals adhere to high hygienic standards. Once the system is positioned around the patient, the MobileDiagnost wDR acquires images in just a few seconds and sends them wirelessly to the facility's picture archiving and communication system (PACS).

Equipped with a robust 40 kW generator, the MobileDiagnost wDR delivers short exposure times for challenging examinations, critical patients, pediatric and bariatric patients. The combination of the MobileDiagnost wDR system's UNIQUE image processing algorithm and intuitive Eleva interface allows technologists to react swiftly and perform a multitude of difficult examinations with ease.

With Philips new solution, patients and medical personnel receive the benefits of a premium DR room - wherever they are needed.
