BC Technical Inc., a molecular imaging solutions provider based in Salt Lake City, Utah, officially announced at the annual SNMMI show in Vancouver this week that the company has acquired MEDX LLC, a distributor of new and refurbished molecular imaging equipment.

MEDX was considered the number two player in the U.S. in molecular imaging refurbishment.

This is the sixth acquisition by BC Technical over an 18 month period, according to Mark Alvarez, president and CEO of BC Technical.

"There’s an alternative now to OEM pricing on parts, service contracts and systems, and I’m trying to build the biggest, best, most credible, high-quality, alternative, national, multi-OEM [service provider]," said Alvarez to DOTmed News.

In January, BC Technical acquired Genesis Medical, a CT, MRI and PET/CT service specialist. It was the first non-molecular imaging acquisition by the company. Including MEDX, other molecular imaging companies BC Technical has bought include Xpert, RA Services, NC Systems and Consus, according to Ken Smith, executive vice president of sales and services at BC Technical.

Alvarez said these deals will give the company a 20 percent share of all nuclear medicine systems in the U.S. under BC Technical's service umbrella.

Alvarez said he will continue acquiring more CT, MR, nuclear medicine and PET service companies going forward. "There are a lot of deals to be done." he said.

The terms of the agreement with MEDX were not disclosed.
