National Quality Forum president and CEO Janet Corrigan has tendered her resignation and will step down in June, the health care standards group announced Thursday.

Corrigan, who has been with the NQF for six years, plans to spend time with her family and travel before "embarking on any new professional opportunities," the group said in its release.

Dr. William Roper, chair of NQF's board, credited Corrigan with helping to expand the brand.

"A legacy of Janet's leadership is that when something carries the NQF's imprimatur, it is widely acknowledged to be a product that is neutral, evidence-based, grounded in the widest range of stakeholder perspectives, and focused on lasting change," he said in a statement.

NQF said its board will now begin a national search for Corrigan's replacement, to be shepherded by Dr. John Tooker, CEO emeritus of the American College of Physicians.
